Trademark Registration Process

Detailed below is the registration process regarding Trademark registration in Sri Lanka:

  1. Conducting the IP search (Optional)
  2. Submitting the IP application along with the POA
  3. Issue of Filing Number, by Intellectual Property Office
  4. Queued for Examination stage
  5. Examination of mark
  6. Papers sent to translation department (if translation, is required)
  7. Papers sent for gazetting and made subsequently public
  8. Objection period
  9. Certificate issued (if, no objections)

Documents Required to Register a Trademark

  • A duly completed trademark application for registration (Form M-01)
  • A clear image of the mark to be registered (10cm x 10cm)
  • A duly executed Letter of Authority for the appointment of an Agent.
